Unique business model
Silmäasema is, according to the view of company’s management, the only company in Finland in its line of business that provides complete vision and eye healthcare services – in the field of optical retail as well as eye clinic services through a complete service offering. Our offering includes eyeglasses, contact lenses and sunglasses, the services of opticians and ophthalmologists, the examination and treatment of eye diseases and versatile eye surgery, such as refractive surgeries and cataract surgeries. Due to our large variety of products and services, we are always able to provide our customers with the best solutions for good eyesight.
Silmäasema has 148 stores in Finland, out of which 125 are owned by Silmäasema and 23 operate with a franchising model, and 13 eye clinics. In addition, Silmäasema has eight optical retail stores in Estonia. Silmäasema also serves its customers online.
The Silmäasema chain employs about 1,000 eye healthcare experts who provide optical products and services, ophthalmologist’s services, eye surgery services and eye laboratory services to private customers, companies and the public sector. The Silmäasema chain conducts about 210,000 eye examinations, 190,000 ophthalmologist’s appointments and more than 15,000 cataract and refractive surgeries annually.
Growth of net sales
In 2016, the net sales of Silmäasema Group were EUR 101.3 million, with 8.6 per cent growth from 2015. In 2016, the company’s adjusted EBITDA ¹ grew by 11.1 per cent to EUR 12.0 million. The company’s EBITDA in 2016 was EUR 10.3 million.
Strong market position
Silmäasema is Finland’s largest private eye healthcare service provider and second largest optical retail chain with a market share of 28.4 per cent in H1/2017 (Source: Finnish Association of Vision and Eyecare). According to the view of Silmäasema’s management, Silmäasema holds a more than 50 per cent market share of privately financed eye surgeries (refractive and cataract surgeries)
